There was constant movement and noise in the house. I didn’t know how anyone got anything done. I was so used to my home being quiet. Neither me nor my mother made much noise. The only time things were loud were in the studio and that was what the Wright household reminded me of.
I loved it. Everything was vibrant with laughter, chatter, voices, noise, and it was all comforting. No wonder Jonah did so well conducting all the dancers. He’d watched his parents do it for years.
Donna and Richard moved around each other like a well-rehearsed dancing pair. Richard prepared more of the meal than Donna. And she worked on presentation and dessert. They were elegant to watch, and their chemistry was evident.
Clearly, one of the things Jonah had learned from Richard was the subtle art of always finding little ways to touch a woman.
The siblings were a lot to take in all at once. They were loud and constantly teasing each other. Only a couple of them had significant others who all seemed to be just as much of the family as the siblings were.
“It’s a lot to take in, but you get used to it.” Isabis, Zane’s twin sister, was sitting next to me. She was more reserved than the others, quieter. She was stunningly gorgeous, but it was almost like she tried to hide it under a baggy sweatshirt, black jeans, and her black coils of hair were all twisted into a bun. She didn’t wear any makeup, not that she needed it. Her cool umber skin was flawless.
“I’m enjoying the show,” I said.
She smiled and nodded. “They can be very entertaining.”
“Liseli, what else do you do besides music and dance?” Just on the other side of Isabis was another Wright sister, Alicia. She was the only one not wearing some sort of yoga pants or sweatpants or pajama pants. She was in a pencil skirt, a button up blouse, and earlier she had a jacket on.
“Um, lately, that’s all I seem to do. But Jonah has been good about getting me to relax.”
Rick and Neil snickered.
Jonah reached for my hand under the table and gave my hand a squeeze.
“Are you guys just jealous because he has a real woman to play with, rather than the blow-up dolls I assume you have at home?” I tossed at them.
Rick and Neil exchanged glances, their eyes wide and then they burst out laughing.
“I know it doesn’t seem like it, Liseli, but these children have been taught manners,” Richard said, a small smile playing over his mouth.
Was he happy I could keep up with the teasing?
Giovanni sat directly across from me, he kept looking up at me and then turned back to something in his lap. Anywhere else and I would’ve been concerned about something inappropriate happening, but he was hardly a deviant. He didn’t seem to be paying any attention to the rest of the crew, just looking up and then writing or something when he looked back down.
“He’s sketching,” Jonah murmured.
